To ensure your home’s roof is maintained properly, perform a roof inspection twice a year.
Indoor
-
One of the biggest signs of a leaky roof can be discovered if you find water stains on your ceilings or walls. Or if your attic or homes crawlspace is damp, dripping, or showing signs of water stains.
-
Be sure any crawlspace or attic in your home is properly ventilated and not showing signs of mildew or mold which can be induced by water leakage.
-
Pay close attention to ceiling tiles, being sure there is no mold or mildew growth as well.
Outdoor
-
Be sure to clean out any debris that may be on the roof, or in gutters. Also, trim any branches or plants that are touching or hanging over your roof or gutter.
-
Keep a look out for any flashing holes, algae, mold, or moss growth.
-
If you have a chimney, be sure to inspect any changes that may have occurred on the surface, or with the structure itself.
-
Remember, any parts of the roof that are exposed to the sun will suffer damage more quickly then parts of the roof not exposed.
